Coastguard, a helicopter, a number of police staff and a police dog team are currently searching along the Waikato River near Atiamuri for two men who decamped from a stolen vehicle.
A police patrol came across the vehicle at approximately 2.20pm this afternoon on State Highway 1 just south of the Atiamuri Bridge.
The two offenders are believed to be wearing no shoes and police want to hear from anyone who has seen these men particularly in the areas of Tram Road, Tirohanga Road and State Highway 1 as well as the nearby river.
