Serious assaults in Wellington region overnight

Wellington Police are conducting investigations after two serious incidents in the region overnight.

In the first, Police were called to an address in Bedford Street, Cannons Creek at about 10.50pm last night after being advised that a man had been stabbed at the address.

Attending staff located a male with a number of injuries, in a critical condition.  Ambulance personnel were able to stabilise the male before rushing him the Wellington Hospital.  He later died of his injuries.

Another person who was located at the address, is assisting with the investigation and the scene remains cordoned pending further examination today.

In the second incident, Police were called to the Gibbons Street area in Upper Hutt at about 1.00am this morning after a person was heard threatening people with a knife. 

On arrival, several people were located in the vicinity where a gathering was taking place.  A search of a nearby address located a female who had critical knife wounds.  She was swiftly transported to Wellington Hospital by ambulance where she is currently undergoing surgery.

A second person was also found with cuts and is receiving medical treatment at hospital.

Inquiries into the events surrounding how both persons sustained their wounds are ongoing.  A number of areas around Gibbons Street have been cordoned and are being examined by investigators assisted by a specialist search team.
