Serious crash on SH29, Tauranga

1 min read

Police are in attendance at the scene of a serious crash on State Highway 29, at the intersection with Poripori Road, in Tauranga.

A truck was in collision with a car shortly before 2.14pm on Friday 3 June. There were four people in the car at the time of the crash - one has life-threatening head injuries, one has serious injuries and the others have moderate injuries. The condition of the truck driver is not known at this time.

The road was closed after the crash, but a single lane has been reopened to allow alternate east and westbound traffic through. Motorists are being warned to expect significant delays.

Senior Sergeant Ian Campion said: "My advice to motorists heading from Waikato to Tauranga or the western Bay of Plenty is to take an alternative route. From Waikato, take SH5 to Rotorua, then State Highway 36 to Tauranga. Alternatively, you can take State Highway 2 through Waihi to Tauranga.

"Drivers travelling from Tauranga to Waikato can take the opposite routes."
