Shed fire at Avondale Islamic Centre – Update Operation Abacus

A scene examination carried out yesterday has lead Police to believe that the small fire located in a storage area, at the Avondale Islamic Centre did not start accidentally and that it is now being treated as suspicious.

Staff are presently reviewing information received from members of the public and thank them for coming forward said Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Newman from Glen Innes CIB.

“We would like to hear from anyone else who may be able to provide additional information around this incident and ask that they call Police on 09 302 6557” said Mr Newman.

Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

As this is an on-going investigation, there will be no further information provided.
