Police have released the name of the hunter who was accidentally shot dead in the Ruahine Ranges yesterday.
He was Danny Rion Jordan, 23. Mr Jordan was a soldier stationed at Linton Military Camp. He was hunting in the ranges yesterday with two Army friends when he was shot accidentally by another hunter who was not part of his group.
A scene examination has finished and the investigation into the incident is continuing. Police have spoken to all those involved in the incident yesterday and a decision on what, if any, charges may be laid will not be made for some time.
Mr Jordan's body has been removed from the ranges and will be undergoing a post mortem later today.
