Six injured following single vehicle crash in near Waimate

Canterbury Police were alerted to a serious single vehicle crash which occurred shortly after midnight last Saturday night/Sunday morning (9/10 May 2015) on the Hakataramea Valley Road near Cattle Creek.  None of the occupants were wearing safety belts.

Canterbury Police can confirm that the silver 1998 Toyota Land Cruiser rolled a number of times throwing all six occupants, including the driver, from the vehicle. 

The 39 year old male driver and 23 year old male passenger were taken to Dunedin Hospital by helicopter.  The driver has a fractured skull and is in a serious but stable condition.  The passenger is in a critical condition.  A 25 year old male and 22 year old female passenger were taken to Christchurch Hospital by helicopter.  The male passenger is in a critical condition and the female is being treated for moderate injuries.  The other two male passengers aged 38 and 22 were taken to Timaru Hospital by ambulance and are being treated for moderate injuries.

Canterbury Police investigations into the crash are continuing.

Canterbury Police urge all road users to ensure they use appropriate restraints or, if riding a motorbike or bicycle wear appropriate safety gear.   When planning a journey with friends ensure you leave enough time to complete your journey safely, especially when travelling at night, in bad weather or in bright sunshine. 

Canterbury Police want every journey to be a safe journey and for all road users to complete their trip safely.
