Statement issued on behalf of the Rippon family

1 min read

The family of Craig Campbell Rippon, who died following an assault in Whanganui last year, has asked that media please refrain from approaching them for comment as a trial into the circumstances of his death gets under way.

In June 2016, Tyrone William Madams was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to the murder of Mr Rippon, 57, who died in November 2015.

Five more people are shortly due to go on trial in the High Court at Whanganui in connection to the death.

Mr Rippon’s family has asked Police to pass on that they do not wish to speak to media and will not be making any comment before, during or after the trial.

While they acknowledge the media and public interest in this case, the family is concerned about the impact of media approaches on them at this stressful time, particularly vulnerable younger family members. This is adding to their distress at what is already a very difficult time.

The family has asked therefore that media please respect their request for privacy, and refrain from contacting or approaching family members.
