Stay safe with fireworks this Guy Fawkes

1 min read

Guy Fawkes Day is an enjoyable, exciting time of year for many, but for some people, and animals, the booms and sparkles of fireworks can make it worrying and distressing.

Police wants members of the public to enjoy fireworks in a safe and responsible way, with respect for other people and property, and encourages people to follow the NZ Fire Service’s guidelines here and YouTube link here for a safe Guy Fawkes. See the Environmental Protection Authority’s tips here.

Fireworks go on sale to the public on Wednesday, November 2, and can only be bought by those aged 18 and older, until November 5.

There are also some local council bylaws which prevent the letting off of fireworks in certain public areas – check with your local council for details.

If you notice anyone using fireworks in a way which endangers people or property, call 111 straight away.
