An operation run by Tararua Police and supported by Hawke's Bay and Auckland staff has seen half a million dollars worth of methamphetamine seized over the weekend.
At about 3:30am on Saturday 25 July, 2015 a vehicle entering Napier was intercepted by police and the Armed Offenders Squad.
The two male occupants of the vehicle were arrested without incident and transported to the Napier Police Station for processing.
Upon a thorough search of the vehicle officers located 560 grams of methamphetamine and drug utensils.
A 30-year-old Tararua man was charged with supplying and possession for supplying methamphetamine. He appeared on the Saturday in the Napier District Court and was remanded in custody, and is due to reappear in the Dannevirke District Court on 21 August, 2015.
Police are continuing to speak to the other occupant of the vehicle, a Tararua man aged 31, who has been charged with possession of drug utensils. He was remanded on bail and will appear in the Napier District Court on Wednesday 29 July, 2015.
Detective Inspector Ross McKay, Central District Field Crime Manager says: "We believe that the supply ring was carrying out its illicit activity between the central and upper North Island, and the methamphetamine was destined for the Hawke's Bay and Tararua areas. The supply and dealing of illicit drugs knows no boundaries and this seizure is a major success for these communities."
"Methamphetamine destroys lives and we will continue to target those involved in organised and volume crime and hold them to full account for their harmful actions."
Enquiries are continuing and more arrests are likely. Tararua officers are also working closely with the Police Asset Recovery Team to establish if any items belonging to the offenders have been obtained through the proceeds of crime.
