Traffic Flows building - Kapiti Area

1 min read

Traffic:

The traffic on the Kapiti Coast has seen a steady flow of vehicles coming back from the long weekend.

Senior Sergeant Andrzej Kowalczyk, from the Wellington District Command Centre, advises that in the past 24 hours in excess of 160 infringement notices have been issued 80% of these for speeding. These have been issued in the Waikane and Paraparaumu area on State Highway One.

Whilst the majority of the public are abiding by the speed limit, it is of concern that some drivers are putting other motorists at risk.

S/Sgt Kowalczyk advises that as the day progresses into night, traffic flows are expected to increase slowing the journey for everyone. This means that extra patience is required.

Drivers need to observe safe driving practises, including:

·         Keeping to the speed limit

·         Wearing seat belts

·         Observing following distances

·         Taking regular breaks from driving

·         Driving to the road and weather conditions

Extra patrols will be on the road to monitor traffic and ensure motorists get home safely.
