Update 2 - Tongariro National Park bus crash

Emergency services remain at the scene of the Tongariro National Park bus crash.

Several people with serious injuries have been taken to hospitals by helicopter.

Others (number currently unconfirmed) have been taken to the ambulance station in Ohakune for assessment.

Emergency services were called just after 2.30pm to a report of a vehicle rolling at about half way down the Ohakune Mountain Rd.

Police patrols, Ambulance, Fire and Emergency and rescue helicopters were immediately mobilised.

Police understand there were 31 people onboard the bus.

The bus is currently on its side and a salvage team will work to remove it.

The road down from the ski field is open.
