Update on Palmerston North fatal house fire

1 min read

Police and fire investigators are today continuing their investigation at the scene of yesterday's tragic house fire in Exeter Crescent, Palmerston North.

Detective Inspector Ross McKay of Central District CIB says that at this stage, preliminary indications are that the fire began in the kitchen area of the house. However, further details about the possible cause are still the subject of ongoing investigation.

A post mortem is underway today to formally identify the two family members who sadly died in the fire, and Police is continuing to provide their family with the appropriate support. The two victims are believed to be a Grandmother and six-year-old Grandaughter.

Police will release their names once the formal identification process has been completed, hopefully later this evening.
