Vegetation fire in Churton Park Wellington

Police and other emergency services are currently attending a fire on Westchester Drive, Churton Park following a gas main explosion at about 1.30pm today 20 December.

It appears that the gas mains may have been hit while workers were digging in the area, causing a gas leak and then a scrub fire.

No one appears to be injured, however as a safety precaution Police are currently evacuating more than 50 houses in the area.

There are cordons in place while gas, electricity and fire services deal with the fire and the services safely.

Cordons points are:  

Furlong Crescent and Westchester Drive

Westchester Drive and Abilene Crescent

Furlong Crescent and Winsley Terrace
