Amberley Police are asking the North Canterbury community to help Police and each other following an increase in reported thefts in the area.
4WD vehicles and trailers have been targeted and there have been incidents of items taken from vehicles in the Amberley, Rangiora, Oxford and Kaiapoi areas.
Police are advising the public to ensure trailers and vehicles are securely locked and out of sight when possible, while valuable items should not be left on display.
"We understand how personal and invasive thefts from vehicles are to victims of crime, and we all need to do our bit to ensure it doesn't happen," says Hurunui sub area supervisor Rob Irvine.
"Please look out for your neighbours, your community, and let Police know of anything or anyone that looks out of place
"We need the public to help us by being our eyes and ears. Note down registration numbers of suspicious vehicles and descriptions of suspicious people, and let us know."
Local police, intelligence, CIB and SOCO officers are working hard to identify and apprehend the offenders for these crimes and are following several lines of inquiries.
