Waikato Police sting nets Cooks Beach flasher

1 min read

Waikato Police say the prompt, accurate relaying of information by victims helped them apprehend a man indecently exposing himself to women near Cooks Beach.

Sergeant Brendon Bland of the Cooks Beach Public Safety Team said two young women were approached by a man who exposed himself to them near Lonely Beach on Sunday afternoon.

"As a result of information obtained from the victims Police were able to place staff in the area looking like innocent holiday makers enjoying the summer at the beach yesterday.

"Subsequently we apprehended a 41-year-old local man who we are now speaking to in relation to this and a number of similar historic complaints."

Mr Bland said yesterday's arrest was a good example of how the public and Police can work together to prevent crime and he urged anyone who has information on similar types of offending in the area to contact the Whitianga Police on 07 858 6200.
