Waitemata Police Open Day - Saturday June 14

Come along to the Waitemata Police district Open Day!

 

As part of the National Open Day being held by Police on Saturday June 14, the Waitemata District will be holding an event at the North Shore Policing Centre in Mairangi Bay (52 Parkway Drive).

 

The Waitemata Police district covers everything north of the Harbour Bridge right up to Mangawhai, including Warkworth and Wellsford, and to the West, including Helensville, Muriwai, Henderson and New Lynn. Waitemata is also responsible for the policing of the entire Auckland motorway system, from the bottom of the Bombay Hills, right up to Te Hana.

 

The Waitemata Police Open Day will showcase the various policing methods used across our vast geographical area.

 

Everyone is welcome and the event will run from 10am until 3pm.

 

What will visitors see?

 

-An Armed Offenders Squad display; have a look at some of their equipment and speak to members of the Armed Offenders Squad.

 

-Police dog units; get a first hand look at how a Police dog and his handler catch offenders.

 

-111 communications centre display; see what happens behind the scenes when someone makes a 111 call.

 

-Police Pipe Band; listen to the amazing sounds of the Police Pipe band!

 

-Specialist Search group display.

 

-Take a look inside the Booze Bus.

 

-Search and Rescue demonstrations.

 

-Police Maritime Unit boat.

 

-Motorway Patrol and Police motorbike display.

 

-Cellblock tour; have a look around where offenders are taken, including going into a cell and the fingerprinting area.

 

-Sit inside a Police car and get your photo taken.

 

-Scene of Crime Officers; meet the Police staff who gather evidence at crime scenes and see how they do it.

 

-Blast from the past; take a look through some vintage Police cars and a trip down memory lane at the old Police uniforms

 

-Meet Bryan and Bobby and much more……

 

"We're really looking forward to showing the public how we go about keeping our communities safe, and the tools we have now to help us do our jobs" says Superintendent Bill Searle, District Commander, Waitemata Police.

 

"Everyone is welcome, it will be held rain or shine so bring an umbrella if it looks like rain" says Supt Searle.

 

Free parking is available next door in the Constellation Drive park and ride carpark, with thanks to Auckland Transport.
