Weather hampers West Coast search

1 min read

Rain is hampering efforts to retrieve a car from the Wanganui River north of Harihari.

The car was reported to have been travelling south when it crashed off the Wanganui River bridge on SH6 in Westland about 4.30pm on Tuesday.

Late yesterday evening the vehicle was located in the river but weather and river conditions are hampering the recovery.

Police believe the car may be a red Toyota and are asking that anyone who had people fail to turn up at accommodation last night come forward.

It is not yet know who, or how many people were in the vehicle when it left the road and plunged into the river.

State Highway 6 is currently open, however travellers should expect some delays.
