Wellington Police launch investigation into Helston Road stabbing

1 min read

Wellington Police have begun an investigation after Police were called to a Paparangi house when a man in his 40s appeared with multiple stab wounds just after 2.00pm today.

The property has been secured and a scene examination will continue tomorrow with the specialist search group looking to locate the weapon used, believed to be a knife.

A 21 year old man is in Police custody and will appear in the Wellington District Court tomorrow facing a charge of wounding with intent. The two men are known to each other and Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.

Detective Senior Sergeant John van den Heuvel says "It is early days and we are still working through the details of what has occurred. We are confident that, while a serious incident, is an isolated one."

The male stabbed this afternoon is reported to be in a stable condition in Wellington Hospital and Police are looking to interview him in detail over the coming days.
