West Coast river search - update

1 min read

Police and volunteers are continuing to search for two people missing in the Poerua River.

This morning (Friday 10 June) the LandSAR White Water rescue team have been on the river in kayaks, a boat has also been part of the search along with the NZCC Rescue Helicopter.

Unfortunately the search this morning has not uncovered anything.

The water level in the Poerua River remains high and it is continuing to rain. These conditions are limiting the search.

Area commander of West Coast, Inspector Mel Aitken says “Our thoughts are with the families on this tragic occasion.  This is a particularly hard time for everyone involved.”
The search efforts are continuing.

More information will be released when it comes to hand.
