White powder not a hazard

1 min read

Staff from NZDF have confirmed that the powder found at Christchurch Central Police station is not hazardous.

At approximately 1.40pm today a small area in the station was cordoned off after an envelope was opened and found to contain white powder.  The envelope was immediately secured and removed from the station.

Fire Service attended and a short time later NZDF staff were on site and tested the powder.  It was shown to be non-hazardous.

Police will be carrying out an investigation into the origins of the envelope.

There was no interruption to services or risk to the public during this incident and the station remained open and fully functional.
