Police are appealing to the members of the public who stopped to assist a woman at an incident south of Alexandra to contact them.

At about 1:30am on Sunday 6th March 2016, an alleged serious assault occurred on State Highway 8 approximately three kilometres south of Alexandra, between Alexandra and Butchers Dam.

The incident involved two men and a woman who were travelling in a yellow sedan vehicle.

Members of the public stopped to assist prior to the arrival of Police and ambulance, and it is those people who Police are now asking to come forward.

It is believed that some of the motorists who assisted at the scene may have been towing stock cars north towards Alexandra.  Police believe that they can assist with clarifying the events that occurred.

Detective Sergeant Derek Shaw of the Central Otago CIB says “We are very appreciative of the fact that members of the public stopped and assisted at the scene.  We now ask that they come forward so that they can be spoken to.”

As a result of the incident, a 23 year old Otago man was flown to Dunedin Hospital where he was initially admitted to the intensive care unit with serious head injuries.  He has since been transferred out of intensive care and remains in a stable condition.

A 20 year old Roxburgh man has been arrested and charged with several counts of serious assault.

Anybody that can assist regarding this incident is asked to contact Senior Constable Mike Colligan of the Alexandra Police Station.
