Auckland City officers stepped up to give their time and support to some brave children who have been diagnosed with cancer.

Ably supported by the AOS, Dog Section, Eagle, PSU, Maritime and SAR staff, officers attended Camp Quality to showcase their skills and equipment - and the children loved it!

For any parent, the thought of your child being diagnosed with cancer is inconceivable. However, that is the reality approximately 150 children up to the age of 14 face every year in Aotearoa.

There are a number of great organisations providing support for these children and families within our communities.

Camp Quality is one such organisation, providing caring and stress-free environments for the children to have fun and find friendship.

Auckland’s latest Camp Quality was held in January at Wesley College and attended by 50 children who've been diagnosed with various forms of cancer.

Sergeant Telisha Krishna and her husband have volunteered as camp companions, offering one-on-one support to the young campers, for over 10 years and now help co-ordinate the companions.

These companions include a growing list of Police staff giving up their time to support this great cause.

While there is no cost to the child’s family, the Trust has to fundraise in order to cover the $2700 cost to host each child.

To help with this, Sergeants Telisha Krishna and Jackson Hood are running five half marathons to raise awareness and funds for the charity.
