Every day our Police staff are out targeting illegal firearms as we continue to work towards disrupting and preventing firearms-related violence by criminal gangs and organised crime groups.

The video above highlights some of the great work being done by our Prevention Targeting Team in Counties Manukau.

This work falls under Operation Tauwhiro, our long term, nationally coordinated operation focused on harm prevention and enforcement, as part of the Organised Crime Strategy.

Since the launch of Operation Tauwhiro in February 2020, nationally Police have seized 1,369 firearms, made 1,161 arrests in relation to firearms offences, and seized more than 52,000 grams of methamphetamine*.

As part of the operation, Police also continue to work with communities on education around safe firearm use, ownership and responsibility.

Police welcomes information from anyone who has concerns about organised crime, illicit drugs, or the illegal possession of firearms in their community. They are encouraged to report online at 105.police.govt.nz, call Police on 105, or report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
