Diversion is a scheme, managed by the Police Prosecution Service (PPS), that provides an alternative to full prosecution. For eligible adult defendants, who are typically at the lower end of the post-charge spectrum, meet certain criteria, and who accept and complete diversion, Police can seek to have their charges dismissed by the court.

The policy
The diversion policy is an internal document that provides practical guidance for Police staff about the scheme and how it works. It is primarily intended to be read by Police staff; however, it is made available to members of the public who wish to understand the scheme in detail.
The guidelines for the public
The diversion guidelines for the public summarise those aspects of the scheme that are likely to be most useful to members of the public. The guidelines are designed to ensure the public can access information they need quickly and easily.
The pamphlet
The diversion pamphlet condenses key information about the scheme, which can be printed and folded to create a paper handout. It is designed to provide organisations and stakeholders with a means of easily sharing diversion information with the public, and to serve a quick reference guide for the public.
