One Fire not suspicous- other still being investigated

1 min read

Police and Fire officers say the fire at the 137 Tancred Street where a man was injured last night, is not suspicious.

Fire Assistant Area Commander Dave Burford, says that preliminary investigations show the possible failure of an electrical component caused the fire.

The man is currently in a stable condition in hospital.

Detective Senior Sergeant David Harvey says investigations are continuing at Avalon Street where a woman and her six year old daughter were killed in the early hours of this morning. Police are working with coronial services to formally identify them and name release is not expected for day or so.

The fires are not related.

Fire Service advice is to;
• keep smoke alarms up to date and contact Fire Service to do this for you if you cannot afford batteries or need them checked.
• be careful not to overload electrical systems
• use power boxes and extension cords carefully
