Hamilton Police investigating the suspicious death of a man in the suburb of Melville overnight are asking for the public's help in locating a vehicle believed to have fled the scene.

Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Page of the Hamilton CIB said Police were called to the Catalina Dr address shortly after 5.45pm.

"It was reported to ambulance staff that a man had been stabbed and they notified Police. Officers arrived to find the 46-year-old unresponsive and immediately commenced CPR and were joined by ambulance officers a short time later.

"After about 40 minutes it was assessed the CPR was unsuccessful and the victim was pronounced dead, his death is being treated as suspicious,"

Mr Page said locating a vehicle that left the scene before Police arrived was now a major focus for the inquiry team.

"We're after any information from the public on the location of a blue and silver Toyota Lucida people-mover, registration number EFT114.

"Anyone who has seen this vehicle is asked to contact the inquiry team at the Hamilton Central Police Station on 07 858 6200, alternatively information can be left anonymously on the confidential crimeline, 0800 Busthem (0800 287843).

A media conference will take place at the Hamilton Central Police Station at 3.30pm until 3.45pm, Mr Page will be available for questions following this from 3.50pm until 4pm.
