Arson at church deliberate

1 min read

It is now a month since the fire at St Paul's Trinity Church, Cashel Street, caused a considerable amount of damage to the building and emotional stress for parishioners.

The fire was discovered at 3.27am on 5 August 2009 but Fire Service believes it had been going for at least half an hour before. A mattress was discovered on fire against the east side door.

Police are seeking anyone who was on Madras or Cashel Street around that time who may have seen anyone hauling a mattress or other materials.

"We believe it has been deliberately lit," says Constable Matt Reynolds. "There were also cans lying around the mattress."

Constable Reynolds is still seeking information and can be contacted on phone 3637970.
