Update on deceased baby girl found in creek on Burnside Road

Police have spoken with the 21 year-old mother of a deceased baby found inside a red plastic bag in a creek on Burnside Road on Saturday night.

Detective Senior Sergeant Darrell Harpur says "We understand the baby was born at the address on Wednesday 29 June 2011."

"We have interviewed the mother and no charges have been laid at this stage."

"A post mortem examination was carried out this morning which confirmed that the body was that of a baby girl of at least 35 weeks gestation."

"However, the circumstances surrounding the death of the baby remain unclear and we await the results of pathology tests and ongoing enquiries."

Counties Manukau Police are appealing for information from anybody who may have seen anything suspicious while driving along Burnside Road between 4.30 - 7pm last Wednesday 29 June.
