1 min read

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating an incident in Dairy Flat on Easter Monday in which a blue Subaru saloon crashed after being driven both recklessly and at speed.

Police say that about 6.30pm on Monday 9 April 2007 a Subaru WRX Hatchback exited a moderate down hill left hand bend into Kahikatea Flat Road. During the manoeuvre the driver apparently lost control. The vehicle then veered off the road. The car rolled several times in an open culvert before coming to rest upside down.

A young man who was one of four occupants in the Subaru suffered serious head injuries in the crash. He has since died in hospital. The other occupants were two males and one female. Three of the occupants were thrown from the Subaru on impact. They were not wearing seat belts.

The name of the deceased is:

MCELREA/Jamie Lance

Aged 17 years

Resident - Orewa.

The surviving occupants remain in a stable condition in hospital.

Some witnesses have reported that the blue Subaru was being driven recklessly and that it was overtaking other vehicles on Pine Valley Road, at speed, prior to the crash.

Police wish to speak to persons who may have observed the manner in which the vehicle was being driven prior to this collision. Anyone who has such information is asked to contact Constable Paul HAYWARD at the Serious Crash Unit on 027 283 4973.
