Too early to say if fatal Netherton fire suspicious

1 min read

Waikato Police and Fire Service investigators will shortly commence a scene investigation at a Netherton address following an early morning fire that is believed to have claimed one man's life.

Sergeant Dave Litton of the Waihi Police said emergency services were called to the School Rd address shortly before 5am.

"The house was well ablaze when fire fighters arrived this morning and in fact crews are still dampening down hotspots now that continue to flare up.

"During the course of clearing the address the body of what is believed to be a male was found in the house. It is not known if anyone else was inside the dwelling at the time of the fire and this will be a focus of our investigations."

Mr Litton said it was still too early to determine if the cause of fire was suspicious.

The man's death has been reported to the Coroner.
