Dutch owner of burnt out vehicle found

A 29-year-old Dutch tourist who owns a van found burnt out in Holloway Road, Aro Valley, Wellington, has been found this morning.

Police believe the van was deliberately set alight in the early hours of Thursday 21 June between 3-3.30am.

The owner had parked the van in Holloway Road a couple of days earlier and was unaware of the fire.

He was found this morning by Police who tracked him down via known bank details.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Borrell says police were relieved to speak to him this morning.

"We obviously had serious concerns for his safety.

"We will be continuing an investigation into the fire which we believe was deliberately lit."

The white and blue Toyota Hiace van was found on fire by a passer-by at 3.15am.

Police would like to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the Holloway Road area in the early hours of Thursday morning.
