Christchurch Police advise that the identity of the man killed in a motor vehicle crash on Pound Road, Yaldhurst, this afternoon will not be released until tomorrow [Thursday], as family members overseas have yet to be notified.

The deceased was a 43-year old man, who lived in the Yaldhurst area.

Police say initial enquiries indicate that the deceased had been the driver of a vehicle which had pulled off the carriageway and stopped on the grass shoulder of Pound Round.

He had just got out of the vehicle and was still at the roadside when he and the car were hit by a small truck which had crossed the centre line while travelling south on Pound Road.

The man had been accompanied in the car by his wife, who was not believed to be injured.

Enquiries into the crash are continuing with serious crash investigators and the commercial vehicle investigation unit still at the scene late this afternoon.

Police are also asking for any witnesses to the crash that have not yet been spoken to, to contact Sergeant Tony Woodbridge at Christchurch Police, ph (03) 3637400.

Road closures on Pound Road were removed at around 4.30pm this afternoon.

Police say the family of the deceased expressed their thanks to a number of passers-by who stopped to offer assistance at the scene of the crash.
