Witnesses and driver sought after Hornby crash

1 min read

Christchurch Police are seeking witnesses to a crash in Hornby on Monday morning that left a motorcycle rider with serious leg injuries.

The crash occurred at the roundabout at the intersection of Halswell Junction Road and Springs Road on Monday [18 March] at about 7:15am.

Constable Glen Alder, of Canterbury Road Police, say it appears the motorcyclist, a man in his 40s, was travelling east on Halswell Junction Road and has fallen off or been knocked off his motorcycle.

A large truck and trailer, travelling in the same direction, ran over the man's leg causing serious injuries which required hospitalisation.

The truck then turned left and continued north on Springs Rd without stopping. Constable Alder says the driver may not be aware of the incident, but was apparently behind the motorcycle as they waited to enter the roundabout.

Police would like to hear from any witnesses to the crash, and are asking for the driver to contact them.

The motorcycle was a large, red and white 1000cc machine, while the truck may have been blue in colour.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Alder at Christchurch police on (03) 3637400.
