Christchurch Police are calling for information to help identify an offender who used a knife while robbing a Burwood dairy of cash yesterday afternoon.

The man entered the Wayside Dairy at Bassett Street, Burwood, at around 4.15pm yesterday [Wednesday 8 May].

While purchasing an item he presented a long knife and lunged across the counter to remove a sum of cash from the till. A male shop assistant was working alone in the store at the time, but was not injured.

The man ran from the shop to a nearby vehicle which is described as possibly being a Nissan Terrano or similar with a dark colour top, and silver or white below.

Members of the public reported seeing the vehicle drive north on Bassett Street towards Travis Road.

Detective Dylan Ross says man is described as Caucasian, aged between 18 and 30 years with a short dark goatee.

He was wearing dark clothing, black shoes and a light-coloured cap with dark grey squares.

Police have released security camera images of the offender from the incident.

"We would like to hear from anyone who can help identify this offender, or who has any information about the robbery," says Detective Ross.

"We would also like the female bystanders who saw the car leaving the scene to contact Police so that we can interview them."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Ross on (03) 363 7552 or Christchurch police on (03) 3637400.
