Armed standoff over

1 min read

A standoff between Police and an armed offender in a Penrose bank was resolved at 9.45pm when the man was arrested without incident.

The 41 year-old was transported from the Great South Rd scene to Auckland Central Police Station shortly after the arrest.

He will be held in custody overnight and appear in the Auckland District Court tomorrow where he will likely be charged with firearms offences.

During the five hour ordeal the man asked to speak to a friend but the nominated friend was unable to be located.

No shots were fired throughout the incident which was eventually resolved by direct negotiation.
