Police negotiation continuing in Taupo

1 min read

Police are continuing to negotiate with a man who is inside a house in Taupo and believed to have access to a firearm.

Events began at approximately 9.30pm last night (Sunday, 30 June) when a woman attended the police station to report a domestic assault. This led to police trying to make contact with a man in his 30s at an address in Rangitera Street, Taupo. The Armed Offenders Squad was utilised following information that the man had access to a firearm.

Since that time there have been no significant events but the man, who is alone inside the house, is refusing to leave the address. Police are concerned for his welfare and his state of mind.

Cordons are in place as the negotiation continues.

Mountview Primary School is close to the scene. Parents are advised that the school is open and the staff at the school are working with police to ensure the safety of the children.
