Detective Senior Sergeant David HARVEY advises Police attended a fire in a bed-sit at 126 Fitzgerald Avenue, Christchurch, at 4.10 on Tuesday 30 June.
He further advises the 63 year old male occupant was found deceased. The name of the male is not able to be released at this stage.
Police will be conducting a scene examination of the address on Wednesday.
Detective Senior Sergeant HARVEY advises there will be a post-mortem examination carried out also on Wednesday.
He also advises at this stage the death is being treated as suspicious until proved otherwise.
