Bar incident seriously impacts young lives

1 min read

The lives of two young men collided in an inner city bar in Auckland in the early hours of this morning and, chances are, neither life will be the same again.

A 22 year-old labourer from Napier was arrested in Fort St and will appear in the Auckland District Court today charged with injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. His arrest follows a 3.20am  assault on a 25 year-old man at the Vulcan Lane bar Cassette Nine.

Detective Senior Sergeant John Sutton says the 25 year-old man [not a woman as has previously been reported] was taken to Auckland Hospital in a serious condition and has not yet been spoken to by Police.

“Witnesses to the dance floor incident were able to alert the bar manager and staff followed a man who left the bar for a short time so were able to provide valuable information to us.

“Being able to monitor real-time CCTV footage in the area enabled staff in our District Command Centre to dispatch officers to a Fort St carpark promptly which resulted in the 22 year-old’s arrest.

“Once again, as if any further proof was needed, this event shows nothing good happens in the city after 3am.”
