Drivers fail to stop for Police this morning

1 min read

At approximately 5am this morning Waitemata Police noticed two cars driving erratically on the Northwestern Motorway. One was a stolen vehicle that had failed to stop for Police earlier in the night and the second was also thought to have been stolen.

Both cars failed to stop when signalled by Police and headed south. Police began pursuing the vehicles.

One of the pursuits was abandoned because the vehicle was travelling at excessive speeds and it was deemed unsafe.

The second vehicle was followed by a number of Police units on the Southern Motorway towards the Hamilton Expressway.

They turned around near the Te Kauwhata turn off and began driving back towards Auckland.

Police continued to follow the vehicle. Road spikes were also used to attempt to stop it.

The vehicle became undriveable near the Papakura offramp and Police apprehended the occupants.

The car was abandonded in the fast lane and traffic is beginning to build up. Police are working to remove the car however, the traffic may take time to clear.

Police thank drivers for their patience while the car is cleared.

No further information is available at this stage and Police are searching for the other vehicle involved.
