Investigation determines dog injuries not stab wounds

1 min read

Canterbury Police have completed an investigation into a complaint that alleged a family dog was stabbed twice with an unknown object during a burglary in the Linwood area of Christchurch shortly before 4.30pm on 12 March 2015.

A thorough investigation has determined that no burglary has taken place and that a dog was not stabbed.  However Officers did ascertain that two dogs had sustained injuries and were taken to a veterinarian who confirmed the injuries were consistent with the two family dogs fighting each other.

Canterbury Police are aware that images and a description of the alleged incident were posted on social media with an appeal for donations towards the dog’s treatment.  The investigation has concluded that the appeal was made in good faith by an independent party.

Canterbury Police have taken into account the circumstances which led to the complaint being made and no charges have been laid.

Canterbury Police take complaints of this nature seriously and would like to thank the public for their help and providing information to assist their investigation.

This is a timely reminder for everyone that information is often posted on social media in good faith but occasionally it may not be totally accurate.
