1 min read

At 10.45am on Thursday 4 August 2016, Nelson Police were alerted to the discovery of a man's body in the back of a white boat at Nelson Haven, opposite the skate park on State Highway 6.

The death is being treated as suspicious. As the formal identification process is still under way, Police is unable to release the man's name at this time.

Forensic scientists and specialist police staff are helping with the scene examination, which includes three boats moored at Nelson Haven, and is expected to take several days.

"It appears the victim was subjected to a serious assault," said Detective Inspector Paul Borrell. "We are keen to hear from anyone who may know anyone who frequents this area, or any commuters or users of the skate park who may have seen or noticed anything suspicious on Wednesday night (3 August 2016) or Thursday morning (4 August 2016)."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Nelson Police on 03 546 3895, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
