Police investigating unexplained death in Oamaru

Approximately 15 investigators from Oamaru, Dunedin and Central Otago Police, together with Police forensic experts and two ESR scientists, are working to establish the movements and cause of death of an Oamaru resident who was located yesterday evening (13/06/2015) at an Oamaru commercial premise.

The identity of the 47 year old male Oamaru resident is not being released at this stage by Police.

A scene examination is underway and Police are working towards recovering the deceased from the address as a priority at which time he will be transported to Christchurch for a Post Mortem examination.

Police are keeping an open mind as to how this death was caused and it is currently being investigated as an unexplained death.

An investigator has been appointed to specifically care for and liaise with the next of kin, and the victim support agency has been working to assist the family.
