Canterbury Police have nothing but praise for the behaviour of the fans that turned up for the launch of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 in North Hagley Park in Christchurch last night (12 February 2015).
Canterbury Police District Commander, Superintendent Gary Knowles, said “There was a positive family atmosphere at the launch last night where everyone enjoyed the celebrations to kick-off the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. We hope this sets the tone for the rest of the tournament and fans continue to embrace the rest of the events in the same manner as they did the opening ceremony.”
“Only one person was arrested towards the end of the show for trespass into a restricted area. As Police were clearing the area after the crowds had left another person was arrested for detox. This very low number is due to our highly visible Police presence, where officers mixed with the crowd, coupled with the positive attitude of the crowd who praised the work of our officers on the night.”
The first game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 is being held tomorrow at Hagley Oval and Police encourage anyone attending to read the conditions of entry on their tickets and allow plenty of time to get into the venue.
Remember to move property out of sight and lock doors and windows before you leave your home, motel or vehicle to prevent opportunistic crime. Plan how you are going to get to and from the game and nominate a sober driver or book a taxi with friends if you are intending on drinking.
Canterbury – let’s make sure the first game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 is one to remember for all the right reasons.
