Nicholas Stevens has not been seen since leaving the Waikato Hospital complex on Monday

Hamilton Police searching for a man that they have serious safety concerns for believe a black cast on his left wrist or a nose ring may help members of the public recognise him and alert Police.

Detective Stephen Stokes of the Hamilton CIB said 21-year-old Hamilton man, Nicholas Tairoa STEVENS, has not been seen since leaving the Waikato Hospital's Henry Rongomau Bennett Centre by Selwyn St on Monday 09 March.

"Nicholas was on an approved release from the centre however he has not returned and we have genuine concerns for his safety.

"When last seen he was wearing a khaki jacket, black jeans and black and white basketball shoes. Nicholas is described as a light skinned Maori male about 166cm tall of thin build with below the shoulder length light brown hair and a brown goatee beard."

Mr Stokes said Nicholas has a black cast on his left wrist and has a liking for beanies and was described as likely to put on any one he might find.

"If you see someone who matches Nicholas' description or someone who appears to be in a stressed state we're asking that you contact Police by ringing 111. Alternatively, anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Hamilton Central Police Station's District Command Centre on 07 858 6200."
