Police seek witnesses to Avondale hit and run

Police are seeking witnesses to a hit and run on Great North Road, Avondale, on Thursday 26 May.

At about 9:00 pm on Thursday the 26th May, 2016, a south bound vehicle on Great North Road, Avondale, has run a red traffic signal and struck a 14 year-old male pedestrian who was heading east on the pedestrian crossing on Great North Road. 

The victim went up onto the bonnet before hitting the road. He suffered a leg injury as a result.

The victim had exited from Heron Park with a friend and was crossing Great North Road when he was struck.

The offending driver who is described as a bald, brown skinned male, exited and checked out his vehicle and then left the scene without ascertaining  the boy’s welfare or injuries. 

The offending vehicle is described as a black Range Rover, SUV, or similar, with silver strips.  It had a rear window spoiler, large silver mag wheels with low profile tyres and round style headlamps which were not on at the time.

Information is required to assist police to identify the offending vehicle and the driver. The vehicle will have frontal damage.

Witnesses are sought.  There is a witness who spoke to the victim from his vehicle on Blockhouse Bay Rd lights and, but left without giving their contact details.  Police are keen to speak to this person and any others who may have witnessed this event.
