1 min read

Mosgiel Police are seeking public assistance to try and identify who is responsible for extensive damage to headstones at the West Taieri cemetery near Outram.

They would like to hear from anyone with the following information.

1. People who were at the cemetery at anytime within the last two weeks and did not notice damage to headstones.

2. People who were at the cemetery within the past two weeks and did notice the damaged headstones.

3. People who may be aware of unreported damage to other areas around Outram/Woodside over the past two weeks.

4. Anyone who saw or heard any suspicious activity or persons in or around the cemetery over the past two weeks, or can provide any other information that could help identify the persons responsible.

Council staff were last at the cenetery two weeks ago and no damage had been caused at that time.

This offending has demonstrated a total lack of respect and police are very motivated to identify the offenders involved.

Information can be conveyed to Mosgiel Police by ringing the Mosgiel Police Station number ph 03 489 3534 or Dunedin Central Police Station ph 03 471 4800.
