Women charged after aggravated robbery in Hamilton

Two women have been charged with aggravated robbery after an incident in Hamilton overnight (Tuesday 17 May).

The two women called for a taxi and were asked to pay for the trip before their travel. They have then allegedly assaulted the driver and stolen the taxi.

Police were called and followed the stolen taxi. Spikes were deployed on Memorial Drive and the vehicle was stopped on Anzac Parade near the Hamilton Central Police Station.

The 15-year-old driver was processed for excess breath alcohol and has been charged with aggravated robbery, dangerous driving and failing to stop. The 17-year-old passenger has been charged with aggravated robbery.

Both are due to appear in Hamilton Youth Court today (Wednesday 18 May).
