Rail safety

New Zealand Police and our partner agencies aim that children are safe near the rail corridor.

Resources

The Rail Safe resources provide learning activities to empower students to move safely and responsibly around trains and rail tracks:

School-wide interventions

To address issues of rail safety more deeply, schools could implement a school-wide intervention in partnership with Police.

Narratives (or case-studies) of completed rail safety interventions:

Partner resources

  • The Rail Safety page on the NZ Transport Agency's Education Portal contains a number of curriculum resources to support primary students learning to stay safe near railways, especially the electrified rail networks in Auckland and Wellington. Teachers can download resources for English, Mathematics, Science and Social Sciences. An overview and list of ICT resources are also supplied.
  • The TrackSAFE Foundation's Rail Safety website includes information about keeping safe around tracks and trains.
  • The Bryan and Bobby website includes a video for children about rail safety (scroll down to 'On Track').
