The Rail Safe programme provides learning activities to empower students to move safely and responsibly around trains and rail tracks.
What students will learn
In this Year 7-8 programme students will learn to:
- identify characteristics of trains and explain how they differ from motor vehicles
- explain why you need to take care near trains
- explain why it is illegal to be in the rail corridor and the consequences of this
- identify legal crossing places
- explain why they should use Stop, Look and Listen before they cross the tracks
- cross the tracks using Stop, Look and Listen.
- explain the possible consequences of unsafe behaviour around trains
- make a difference to the safety of their school community.
Learning activities are arranged in three focus areas:
- Focus area 1: About trains
Students learn how most people look out for trains and take care around them. - Focus area 2: About tracks
Students learn how to take care around the rail corridor. - Focus area 3: About us
Students learn what action they can take to make a difference to the rail safety of our school community.

The Rail Safe programme provides learning activities to empower students to move safely and responsibly around trains and rail tracks.
What students will learn
In this Year 4-6 programme students will learn to:
- identify characteristics of trains
- explain why people have to take care near trains
- identify features that make up the rail corridor
- explain why the rail corridor is out of bounds
- identify legal crossing places
- explain why they should use Stop, Look and Listen before they cross the tracks
- cross the rail tracks using Stop, Look and Listen
- explain why a person should stand at least 1.5 metres back from the edge of the platform
- demonstrate safe behaviour on or near a platform
- explain the possible consequences of unsafe behaviour around trains
- list some of the consequences of breaking RailSafe Rules
- model RailSafe behaviour for younger students
- take positive action to keep students at the school safer around trains.
Learning activities are arranged in three focus areas:

Students learn about the rail corridor and why it is out of bounds. - Focus area 3: About us
Students learn about the possible consequences of unsafe behaviour around trains, and what they can do to take action to prevent this.

In this Year 1-3 programme students will learn to:
- explain that trains are big and go fast
- give 2 reasons why they should stay away from trains and the rail corridor
- explain what a safety line on a platform is
- describe how to behave when waiting at a railway station.
New Zealand Police Workplace Survey results 2015

Over the past few years the NZ Police Workplace Survey has helped provide valuable insight into the climate of our organisation. It has provided a focus for discussion around the perceptions and opinions of staff across a range of areas and issues.
As an organisation, level of engagement has become an important performance measure, which is being tracked along with things like prevention and crime reduction, focus on victims and contribution to Justice Sector performance.
These are the results of the 2015 NZ Police Workplace Survey, first given as the overall results, and then broken down by groups and districts.
