Disability & Special Considerations

Police are sometimes called to events involving people with disabilities. The disability might affect how the person communicates - especially in emergencies or stressful events. In these situations, it helps if the person can let officers know about their disability so we understand what support or adjustments may be needed.

The Disability and Special Considerations Flag was created for this purpose. It allows people to voluntarily share disability information relevant to police interactions - such as communication or mobility needs, or other factors that may influence how they engage with police staff. For example, someone who experiences sensory overload may need a quiet, calm environment instead of loud noises or flashing lights.

The aim is to help police interact with disabled people safely, respectfully, and effectively.

If you would like to flag your disability information with Police, you can report it online to Police. You can also call 105, visit your local police station, or ask a police officer for assistance when specking with them in public.
